Public Registration Open for Lugar Funeral [CLOSED]

May 10, 2019

Update: Registration has been closed. View a video of the service here.

May 10, 2019 - Indianapolis, IN

As previously announced, the funeral of Senator Richard G. Lugar will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis at 1:00 p.m. on May 15th.

As we indicated last week, the Lugar Family wished to initiate contact with as many friends and associates from Senator Lugar’s 50 years of public service as could be reached quickly.  This is an imperfect process and there are undoubtedly many for whom contact information was not available.  So, there remain many who have a relationship with the Senator who would like to attend the funeral.

Those wishing to attend must register by visiting this link, which is also available at www.thelugarcenter.org. We will notify those requesting seats via return email with details about attendance, or, sadly, if we have run out of seats.

In addition to the funeral, the Senator will lie in state in the Rotunda of the State Capitol for 24 hours prior to the funeral.  In a brief ceremony at noon on Tuesday May 14, Governor Holcomb and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will commence the memorial period, after which the Rotunda will be open for those who wish to pay respects at the catafalque.  The public will be welcome through sunset on Tuesday and from 8am through 11am on Wednesday.  The Lugar family will be available to greet well-wishers in the South Atrium of the Capitol from 12:30pm to 2:30pm on Tuesday the 14th (this is a change from the original time).

Additionally, so that all the Senator’s friends world-wide can view the funeral, the entire service will be streamed live on the internet.  More information on that will also be forthcoming.

We have received inquiries regarding memorial contributions; the family has asked that these be directed to The Lugar Center in order to continue the Senator’s work on nonproliferation, global food security and bipartisan governance. Click here.
